An excerpt: “I waved a white napkin high above my head as I Greek danced for my parents and relatives. The furniture of our small home in Chicago, Illinois had been pushed to the side and everyone clapped as the music blared out from our record player. The year was 1968 and my parents were playing music they had just brought home from our summer trip to Greece. Our house was decorated in classic second generation Greek style; Icons of the Virgin Mary, Jesus and the Saints on the walls, oversized worry beads on the table and plastic on all of the furniture which would only to be taken off when ‘special’ company came over.”
Author Robert Krantz weaves a beautiful coming-of-age story that showcases a Greek-American family’s blending of traditional values and customs, with the cultural differences of modern American society.
